Brenda has been working at Sunshine Cottage School for Deaf Children for nine years. In 2001 Brenda received a Bachelor’s Degree in Deaf Education from Fontbonne University in St. Louis, Missouri. Brenda was an Early Childhood teacher at Sunshine Cottage for six years and during that time she served as the Early Childhood Department Chair for two years. In 2017 Brenda received a Master’s Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders with a bilingual certification from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas and became part of the Speech Department at Sunshine Cottage. Brenda has been a supervisor for graduate level students seeking Master’s Degrees in Speech-Language Pathology or Deaf Education. Currently, Brenda is an adjunct professor at the University of Texas Health and Science Center San Antonio (UTHSCSA) in the Deaf Education and Hearing Sciences Program. Brenda is also a certified Listening and Spoken Language Specialist. Brenda has been a part of several national and international presentations on developing listening and spoken language, especially for children who are deaf/hard of hearing from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Being born and raised in El Salvador makes this a topic close to her heart.
