Miriam joined Sunshine Cottage in June of 2017 as the Director of Development. She graduated from University of Texas, San Antonio in 2001 with her Bachelors of Arts in Psychology. She later received her Masters of Science from Our Lady of the Lake University in 2005. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and has specialized in bilingual, trauma-informed counseling with children and adults. Miriam provided clinical training in Mexico and Nicaragua on topics including best practices in counseling and working with trauma survivors. She served as the Executive Director for an anti-violence organization for four years, where she also managed development and marketing. She received the 40 Under 40 Award in 2013 by the San Antonio Business Journal for her work in the non-profit sector and the Outstanding Alumni Award for Community Impact in 2016 from Our Lady of the Lake University. More recently she became a member of the first graduating class of the Tesoro Leadership Fellows Program in San Antonio and was presented with a Texas Resolution from the 85th Legislature for her work with vulnerable populations. Miriam’s professional goals are to support children and families in overcoming life-changing events and to work in an environment that celebrates the extraordinary resilience in children which is what brought her to Sunshine Cottage. Miriam has been married to her college sweetheart for over 10 years and has two young children – Mikey and Victoria.
