"Emily Stark, School Counselor, has been employed at Sunshine Cottage since 2005. Her successful academic career started at Sunshine Cottage when she was identified with a severe to profound hearing loss at the age of three. A mentor who was deaf and had a degree in school counseling inspired Mrs. Stark at a very young age. This inspiration sparked a strong desire to work with deaf youth, be a role model, and offer guidance and reassurance.
Mrs. Stark graduated from Southwest Texas State University with a BS in Family and Child Development. She went on to pursue a MA in Professional Counseling at Texas State University. She is a member of the Phi Upsilon Omicron Honor Society, Chi Sigma IOTA Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society International, Texas Counseling Association, American School Counseling Association and Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
As the School Counselor, Mrs. Stark is dedicated to providing individual and group support to all the students at Sunshine Cottage. She teaches Guidance lessons that encompass a wide variety of topics such as character education, social skills, friendship skills, and advocacy. She works closely with the school social worker to provide responsive services to parents and teachers as well.
When Mrs. Stark is not at work, she enjoys spending time with her wonderful husband and three kids. She loves watching a good movie, traveling, spending summers in the mountains and tackling home improvement projects."
